Wife of world`s richest man, Melinda Gates who is also the
cofounder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation visited the Kaduna State
Governor, Mallam Nasir El Rufai on Wednesday, 18th January 2017.
Mrs Gates praised governor El Rufai`s resolve to improve the
range and credibility of data collection. She stated; “your commitment to data
collection is admirable. You can`t make decisions without data. We are pleased
to help you with that”.
She also stated that the Gates foundation is willing to work
with the Kaduna state government to reduce infant mortality. Mrs Gates was also
impressed with the Kaduna state government over the scale of polio surveillance.
She also spoke on the healthcare partnership between the Gates foundation and the
Kaduna state government, stating that the will continue to support the primary
health centres in the state. She also promised that the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation will invest more in agriculture and promote access to financial
services.
Speaking at the meeting, Mallam El-Rufai declared his
appreciation to the Gates Foundation on all their support so far to the state.
He asked for a strengthening of the relationship between the Gates foundation
and the Kaduna state government through better coherence with the state`s
priorities.
Still speaking, Mallam El-Rufai called for the Gates foundation
to support data revolution and residency identification system in the state and
also tackle the causes of poverty within the region. He also commended the
decision of Mrs Gates to land directly at the Kaduna state airport as a welcome
development.
