Bayern Munich midfield maestro Xabi Alonso is reportedly retiring from professional football at the end of the 2016/2017 season. According to sports bild, it is understood that Alonso has already notified the Bayern Munich hierarchy of his desires to call time on his illustrious playing career.
Alonso, who is currently under contract with the bavarian giants until the end of the season, joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014 after winning the uefa Champions league with Real Madrid.
According to sports Bild sources, the German giants are hoping for a reconsideration by the 35-year old Spaniard owing to the good relationship between him and current head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
In a blissful career which has spanned over 18 years, Alonso is a two time European cup winner as well as a world cup winner with Spain.
