Team and Drivers of Nigeria Racing Eagle meet at Docklands Raceway

Most People would suggest that Nigeria doesn't seem to be big on motorsport but there are a few many that would beg to differ.

On Sunday 4th March 2012 a few car racing enthusiasts gathered together to discuss and enlighten each other on the process and benefits of GRC Motorsport’s newly conceptualized project. “Nigeria Racing Eagle”

The event took place at The Docklands Raceway in London and turned out to be more than the hosts initially set out for.

Guest were greeted and seated at 5.30pm after which they where furnished with the idea of the project and the project’s progress so far.

Mr Leke Aderohunmu CEO Ondbox, hosted the occasion and gave the audience his brief overview and general take on the project.

The baton was then handed over to Mr Ribi Adeshokan Team Principal/Owner Nigeria Racing Eagle. He spoke on :

The objectives of the project

The revenue the project will generate for Nigeria and Cross River State in particular

The jobs that the project will create in Nigeria and in England, as Team Nigeria headquarters is in England.

The infrastructural developments, tourist attractions and so much more that the project has to offer.

Sam Collins
Ovie Iroro

After Mr Ribi’s speech we heard from the two gentlemen who are set to head the steering wheel for Nigeria Racing Eagle, Mr Sam Collins and Mr Ovie Iroro.

Mr Sam Collins, the number one Nigerian driver currently racing in Euro Nascar; spoke on his journey as a driver and supplied us with an insight into his vast wealth of knowledge in motorsport both on and off the racecourse.

Mr Ovie Iroro, a young Nigerian driver in Formula Renault Season; told us about his love for the sport and how his drive with motor sports began.

Both drivers engaged the crowd with talks of the sweet pleasantries of motorsport driving.

Now it was time get technical as Mr Ian Bramwell, an experienced driver and owner of Team FirstAir in formula Renault series, Mr Joe Osborne, high performing United Autosport driver and Mr George Holroyd: Geographics Motorsport livery, supplied us with the technical information, on why the Audi R8 LMS is the best choice for Nigeria Racing Eagle. We were also educated on what it takes to groom and train a driver to competition level and also the basic skills and attributes that the driver must already posses.

With theory out of the way, it was time for the group to pick up their jackets and head out onto the race course for a sneak preview of the speed, skill and experience possessed by Sam and Ovie.

It might have been only Go Cart racing but the two drivers used this opportunity to show us their excellent handling and impeccable manoeuvring skills.

In a 20 driver strong race, Ovie and Sam finished in 2nd place 3rd place respectively.

Closing time was networking with drinks and photo opportunities.

Next month sees the arrival of the Nigeria Racing Eagle Audi R8 LMS.

The vehicle will be unveiled in a prestigious uptown London hotel in the presence of executive Nigerian ambassadors, major motorsport players, business to business minds and friends of Nigeria.

Following this the car will be on display in Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford, London; for a number of days.

Then the car will be carted off to Bransfield for the free for all to see testing.
