Cameroon’s Head of Delegation to the ongoing Aisha Buhari Tournament, Ufei Nseke Anoma has lauded the organisers of the tournament especially the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for her support aimed at encouraging girl-child.
“The Aisha Buhari Cup is a very laudable initiative from Nigeria’s First Lady. It is a much-needed boost in the development of female football and for the girl-child. Africa top teams like Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa, Mali, and Morocco all gathered here in Lagos under FIFA and CAF competition standards show how high the bar has been set. I congratulate the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for a good job in ensuring the success of this football showpiece.
“The guests in attendance; FIFA, CAF Presidents, and other top-notched sports and administrative authorities show the seriousness of the competition.” She told www.kick442.com.
The Lionesses were stunned 1-0 by the Atlas Lionesses of Cameroon in its first game thanks to a goal by Tagnaout Fatima.
Anoma opined that the Aisha Buhari Tournament will serve as a preparatory tournament for the Cameroonian team ahead of African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) Qualifiers, 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and CAF Women’s Champions League.
She said: “For a country like Cameroon, we are very appreciative because it is a trial run and fine-tuning for upcoming competitions like the FIFA Women’s World Cup, AWCON, and CAF Women’s Champions League. The girls have been showered love and friendship. Win or lose, we are coming away with a lot of experience. We don’t want to focus much on the results (good or bad), but to use this experience to prepare our team for our future engagements.
“We thank Her Excellency and may the Aisha Buhari Cup be a permanent feature on the Women’s football landscape.”
Cameroon will face Black Queens of Ghana in their final game at the 2021 Aisha Buhari Tournament on Monday, September 20, before playing Central Africa Republic (CAR) in the First Round of Morocco 2022 AWCON Qualifiers.
