Vivacity Development recently hosted a successful Pre-COP29 webinar, addressing critical pathways for empowering Nigeria’s workforce toward a sustainable and green future. The virtual event gathered insights from notable participants, including Abubakar Shuaibu, Founder and CEO of Green Energy Mission Africa; Ikenna Chike-Obi, CEO and Co-founder of Abamade; Damilola Hamid Balogun of the Youth Sustainable Development Network; Olumide Idowu, Executive Director of ICCDI Africa; Tolulope Gbenro, Social Impact Consultant; Achalu David, Lead Consultant at ProjectPro; Ummi Yahuza Waziri, Waste Management Coordinator; and Kofoworola Maku, Project Manager and Corporate Strategist.
Discussions underscored Nigeria's need to actively engage in international dialogues to broaden citizens' understanding of climate-related challenges and the transformative actions required to drive a green economy. Participants emphasized the importance of setting measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to track progress towards Nigeria’s 2060 net-zero emissions goal. China’s successful approach to workforce empowerment served as a model for leveraging Nigeria’s human and material resources to create a resilient, sustainable economy.
In her closing remarks, Oluwakemi Ann-Melody Areola, CEO of Vivacity Development, extended her gratitude to all participants, noting the critical importance of collaboration as they prepare for COP29 in Azerbaijan. "Our focus is to explore innovative strategies, exchange best practices, and build partnerships that will drive sustainable employment opportunities and address the urgent need for climate action within the green economy," Areola stated.
She further urged all stakeholders to take decisive action on the issues discussed, emphasizing that such steps are essential for meaningful progress.
