FACTS ABOUT RIVERS STATE:
Profile:
Rivers State, one of Nigeria's 36 States was created from the then Eastern Region of Nigeria by Decree No. 19 of 1967 then, the territory was referred to as Oil Rivers Protectorate, a name derived from its central role in the oil trades of the last two centuries. First, the trade in palm oil and then, crude oil. The state in the heart of the hydro-carbon industry, responsible for a huge chunk of the nation's foreign exchange earning. it is accountable for over 48% of crude oil produced on-shore in the country and 100% of the liquefied natural gas that Nigeria is currently exporting to several countries of the world. The strategic importance of Rivers State in the economic equation of Nigeria earned it the name, Treasure Base of the Nation. Port Harcourt, the state capital, is known all over the world as the Garden City, because of its beautiful layout and decent environment. Port Harcourt is indeed one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities in Africa.
Geography:
The State is bounded on the South by the Atlantic Ocean,on the north by Anambra, Imo and Abia States, the East by Akwa Ibom State and the West by Bayelsa and Delta States. Rivers State, Which is in the Niger Delta, has topography of flat plains with a network of rivers and tributaries. These include New Calabar, Orashi, Bonny, Sombreiro and Bartholomew Rivers. With a tropical climate, numerous rivers and vast areas of arable land, the people of Rivers State have lived up to their tradition of agriculture, especially fishing and farming, commerce and industry. Beside Oil and Gas, Rivers State is blessed with many natural resources including timber, white sand beaches, clay fro ceramics, (ash, yellow, and red ) etc, all yearning for exploitation.
People:
The State has a population of about 5.6 million people who have a rich and unique cultural heritage. Usually known to be friendly and hospitable, these people come from various ethnic nationalities namely, Abua, Andoni, Ekpeye, Engenni, Igbani, Ikwerre, Kalabari, Ndoni, Okrika, etc. These ethnic groups have existed together for centuries, long before the creation of the State and are currently distributed in twenty three Local Government Areas.
Economy:
Port Harcourt is Nigerias second largest commercial and agricultural centre and has the second busiest seaport in Nigeria. This cosmopolitan city has a busy international airport with regular local and international flights to all parts of the country and major cities of the world. It marks the eastern terminal of Nigeria's railways system. Besides, Rivers State with 23 Local Government Areas boasts of four degree-awarding institutions, two refineries, a petro-chemical plant, fertilizer plant and a liquefied natural gas plant. No wonder, Rivers State is described as the 'INVESTORS' haven The present administration has a plant it is pursuing vigorously to vastly push infrastructural development to first world standard with a friendly people and harmonious environment, the number of interested local and foreign investors has continued to rise. The State is about to achieve self-sufficiency in power generation, with Security Agencies is working assiduously to guarantee that the people live in an atmosphere of peace and security. Comparatively, since the inception of this administration, normalcy has return to Port Harcourt and its environs and the growing interest by the business community alike. BRIEF ON THE ORGANIZERS:
PHCCIMA:
The 2012 Port Harcourt Intentional Trade Fair is organized by Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), a foremost Exhibition management and Consulting Organization.
PROFILE OF PHCCIMA:
The Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) was established in 1957 as an interest group with the objective of articulating business interest in the Niger Delta region and its environ in their transitional period to a post-colonial Nigeria, and thereafter.
She is the second largest and active chamber of commerce in Nigeria. Presently, PHCCIMA is a grown and still growing body whose broad based mission and vision is building and protecting business while developing people through sharing of relevant knowledge and information to her esteemed membership. PHCCIMA will continue to work and act on behalf of businesses in our city, region and country, Nigeria, to foster economic development and interact with the legislative and executive arms of this Federation at all levels to ensure a good and an enabling economic environment for businesses to grow.
Our goal is to reverse that status and therefore promote speedy economic growth to the smallest possible company through exposure of our businesses to the global market.
SERVICES TO MEMBERS:
- Organizing of an annual international trade fair and other specialised fairs.
- Holding of quarterly business luncheons, dinner or breakfast meetings for Its members for the purpose of networking and enlightenment on current business issues.
- Publishing of a quarterly newsletter for circulation to members and the general public on latest activities at the Chamber and contemporary Businesses.
- Organizing trade missions to overseas countries for members to network with foreign businesses and thus evolve partnerships and business relationships.
- Receiving trade missions from foreign countries and providing a platform for foreign business interests to meet with business organizations in Nigeria.
- Acting as referee to officials of member companies seeking visas from foreign countries.
- Curtailing the activities of touts and over-zealous government officials and agents from imposing excessive and obnoxious rates and levies on the business community for members only.
- Bringing to the notice of the government the problems and needs of the business community.
- Organising seminars, workshops, conferences and training sessions for the business community on issues and topics that will promote business growth and development and others.

- Be a watch dog of government economic policy and environmental dynamics.
- Create a focal point for the exchange of business ideas.

- Advocate policies that affect the entire economy, as it will benefit the generality of the welfare of our people and the nation at large.
- Initiate changes where necessary in the environmental management and business development services that will enhance best business practices and create investment opportunities to reduce poverty at all levels.

- Hosting regular high-tech trade fairs.
- Mobilising the needed resources for the building of a standard International Trade fair Complex for the South-South zone in Port Harcourt equal or better than the existing International Trade Fair Complex.
- Developing a comprehensive directory of credible companies to participate in the exchange programme and business relationship between Nigerian and overseas partners.
- Mobilising members for investment in the rural areas especially for agricultural product processing, preservation, storage and export.
- Providing a fully-computerised library network that will always meet the information needs of the business community.
- Assisting to harmonise the relationship existing between oil firms and oil-bearing communities.
- Monitoring and controlling of obnoxious taxes, arbitrary increase in tenement rates charged by local governments to ensure uniformity and fairness.
INFORMATION FOR EXHIBITORS
A. ORGANIZERS OF THE EXHIBITION:
The 2012 Port Harcourt International Trade Fair is organized by the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture a foremost Marketing & Exhibitions Management Company as Consultants it enjoys the support and co-operation of the State Government, the Chambers of Commerce in Nigeria and the general public and covers all aspect of business and economic activities in Nigeria. The fair will provide unique meeting points for Nigerian and foreign policy makers, industrialists, manufacturers, suppliers, buyers and uses of wide range of goods and services, as well as offer opportunities for investment and promotion. The Fair is open to domestics and foreign exhibitors.
B. DATE AND VENUE:
The Port Harcourt International Trade Fair will be held in Port Harcourt from November, 22nd to 10th December 2012. It is scheduled to hold at Isaac Boro Park Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt
C. BUSINESS HOURS:
The Fair will be opened daily for business from the hours of 9.00am to 6.00pm including Saturdays and Sundays. Delivery removal of goods from the Trade Fair Venue through the means of vehicles MUST be made between the hours of 6.00am and 8.00am daily in the morning and between 6.00pm and 7.00pm daily in the evening.
D. EXHIBITION ARENA:
This area will be divided into 7 professional exhibiting sections: Household Textiles and Garments, Home Appliances and Electronics, Offices Supply/Sport articles and Furniture, Decoration and Gifts, Articles of daily use, Foodstuffs and SMEs. Large indoor exhibition halls capable of housing 150 Shell-Scheme type ready-made booths will be set up for those exhibitors wishing to avoid making their own construction over an exhibiting area of 10.00sqm. Provision has also been made for allocation of open spaces which will be allocated according to products and services.
E. PARTICIPANTS:
Not only will the Fair be visited by foreign businessmen seeking partnership with local manufacturers and distributors, but exhibitors will also be exposed to more than 1 million visitors comprising mainly of key industry players as well as targeted customers across all industries involved in the planning, implementation, development, join-venture and execution, importers, Wholesalers, Agents, Traders Consumers, Business Executives, Government Officials, Diplomats, Political Leaders and general public. Various seminars and workshops will form part of our 2012 Exhibition Events Diary, which will also attract a large number of high quality visitors.

I. VISITOR PROFILE:
Exhibitors Will be exposed to major agents distributors, exporters and importers, key decision-makers, leading buyers, Trade Associations & Chambers and their members, industry leaders and influential business people With Well established infrastructures and trade networks throughout Nigeria and the African Sub-region, plus Well positioned government officials. There Will be buyers engaged in various industries looking for innovative, cost-effective and latest products and services.
J. INSURANCE, LIABILITY AND RISK
Participants will insure their exhibits and display materials against loss, damage, theft, fire or any cause whatsoever. Specialized insurance covers would be arranged at competitive rates, and exhibitors should contact the Organizers for necessary formalities.
K. CAR PARKING:
Each car pass admits only the vehicle and driver for the duration of the fair. Vehicles shall therefore not be allowed into the fair complex EXCEPT they carry car passes. All passes will be issued to participants as they register. Exhibitors are strongly advised to register early and avoid the inconvenience of registering on the opening day. Car parking stickers will be available on payment only.
L. VEHICLES PASSES:
In additional to the exhibitor's passes that will be issues to the Exhibitors, they will be given Vehicle Passes as well.
M. EXHIBITOR PASSES:
Exhibitor's shall be issued Entry Passes for their representatives at the Fair. These Passes require PASSPORT PHOTOGRAHPS. In view of this, each company participating in the Fair is expected to submit list AND A PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH of each of their representatives at the point of payment for the purpose of issuing them Identity Cards on arrival. Extra exhibitor pass will be charged extra.
(Please note that no exhibitor pass shall be issued without a proper Passport Photograph)
N. SHELL SCHEME:
The Organizers will provide a built-up booth constructed with prefab system with a height of 2.4 meters. With fascia writing, carpet, one podium, one table, four chairs, one power plug and seven spotlights (stand lighting to 1 KW) in booth15/20sq. meter. Each panel will be of 1 meter wide with white board. Only 25 per cent of the outdoor area can be covered mainly for office purpose. Extra Spaces shall be in multiples of 9 sq meters.
O. SECURITY:
The security of the exhibition site will be provided by the sponsors of the Fair and State Security Agencies. A Police Post in the Fair Complex shall remain opened 24 hours a day during the period of the exhibition and three (3) days after the closure of the Fair. Nevertheless, in the hustle and bustle of the show particularly during the busy assembly and dismantling periods, it is advisable to take additional precautions to safeguard your property. For this reason, we recommend making arrangements with one of our security partners to have your stand and exhibit materials watched. However, the Organizers shall not be responsible for any loss or damages to exhibits in the Exhibition Halls and Stands.

The official Trade Fair Catalogue is a highly popular source of information for visitors and industry decision-makers all year long. We will be happy to provide you with more information about your advertising options there, including full or half-page ads, “bookmark ads”, placement to options, prices and conditions.
Q. WASTE DISPOSAL:
Your main purpose at the show is to generate promising leads and display your products and services. Often exhibitors underestimate the volume of waste that is produced when demonstrating products or entertaining guests. We will provide waste disposal bags and baskets for easy removal throughout the period.
R. IMPORTATION AND CUSTOMS:
i. A full list of goods showing identification, marks, origin description, quantity weight and C.I.F value market “EXHIBITION GOODS FOR 2012 PORT HARCOURT INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR” should be shown to the customer at the Port entry.
ii. These goods admitted under temporary importation regulations shall be re-exported within three months of the end of the fair and appropriate duties paid for any missing items. Note however, that that NACCIMA guarantees temporary imports meant for exhibition.
S. TERMS OF REFERENCE DEFINITION
i. The term “Fair” shall include all employees' servants and agents of company, partnership, firm, government or individual to whom space is allocated for the purpose of exhibition.
ii. The term “Organizer” shall mean PHCCIMA.
iii. The term 'Contract” shall mean the condition for allocation of space at the Exhibition entered into between the organizers and exhibitors, which incorporate terms of contracts and any rules and regulations that may be subsequently issued.
T. APPLICATION FOR PARTICIPATION
Participants are advised to return completed Application Form for participation together with full payment for the space and all utilities to any of the designated offices of The Organizer. Any entry after, 30th November, 2012 will not appear in the Participation list of the Trade Fair Catalogue. Application Form for participation in the Trade Fair is obtainable from:
