I AM IN GOVERNMENT TO TAKE PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY, SAYS GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday said he would take people out of poverty.

The governor, who spoke yesterday when the Alumni Association of the Third Regular Course at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), led by former Senate President David Mark, paid a courtesy visit to the State House, Ikeja, said that his administration would continually focus on poverty eradication and provide conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

“The essence of governance is to take people out of poverty and create avenue for businesses to thrive. That is what government is all about.

“So, for me, I have decided to always ensure the greatest good is for the greatest number of people. That is the real dividend of democracy. We will ensure that in Lagos always.

“Lagos has been so many things to several people and we will ensure it becomes the melting point for all.”

Sanwo-Olu, while commending the statesmen’s commitment to eradicating poverty across the country through the alumni, said that giving back to the society was crucial to the development of any state.

Mark, who led the delegation, including former Administrator of Lagos State, Brig.-Gen. Raji Rasaki (rtd), Tunji Olurin (rtd), among others, said the alumni had embraced assisting widows and indigent children across the country.

“Once you develop individual, one is developing the nation. We help to develop the widows and children of military personnel and the public as well. We do this in terms of providing for them as much as we can,” he said.
