Nigeria population is very youth heavy that will become more relevant in the next 10 to 20years. The quest to build a better Nigeria has gone beyond mere low level of education, youths need to be equipped with solid quality education to compete in the labour market. The rate at which Nigerian students relocate abroad to study has continually been on the increase, every year has witnessed a significant rise in the numbers of students migrating abroad for education; despite the huge costs of financing such moves. The rate at which Nigerian students relocate abroad to study has continually been on the increase due to quality standard of education in developed countries.

Such people that study abroad are usually rated above those that studied in Nigeria’s indigenous institutions.”

BUHARI RETURNS TO ABUJA 2 DAYS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

President Muhammadu Buhari has cut short his two-week private visit to London by two days as he arrived the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on Friday evening.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the president, who was on an official visit to Saudi Arabia before the commencement of the private visit to London on Nov. 2, was initially scheduled to return to Nigeria on Nov. 17.

The president attended the third Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he later performed the Lesser Hajj alongside Governors Atiku Bagudu, Aminu Masari and Babagana Zulum of Kebbi, Katsina and Borno States.

NAN observed that the Nigerian leader was far away in Saudi Arabia when the Supreme Court on Oct. 30, dismissed the appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar challenging his victory at the Feb. 23 presidential poll.

NAN also reports that President Buhari returned to Abuja on the day the apex court ruled that he was “eminently qualified” to contest the Feb. 23 presidential election.

The full judgment delivered on Friday provided explanations for the apex court’s summary decision of Oct. 30, which dismissed the PDP’s appeal.

In the full judgment, the Supreme Court affirmed the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which held that Buhari possessed the requisite educational qualification to contest the poll.

NAN further reports that the presidential aircraft conveying the Nigerian leader and few of his aides landed at the airport at about 9.40 p.m, with the temperature out at 26 degrees centigrade.

President Buhari was received on arrival by his Chief of Staff, Malam Abba Kyari, FCT Minister, Malam Muhammed Bello, some heads of security agencies and presidential aides.

The President had on Nov. 10 met with his long time friend, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. Justin Welby, at the Lambeth Palace, London.

The two last met in Oct. 2018, when Welby was in Abuja as a keynote speaker at a conference on religious harmony, shortly before the conduct of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria. The Nigerian leader also on Wednesday in London, met with the management of Pearson Educational Group.

The president’s media aide, Mr Femi Adesina, posted pictures of the meeting on his Facebook page, which he said was attended by Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK, Justice Adesola Oguntade.

BUHARI PROMISES SUSTAINED FUNDING FOR TRANS-SAHARAN HIGHWAY PROJECTS

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the Trans-Saharan highway projects would continue to receive deserved attention and funding from his administration, to bolster economic activities and enhance regional and cultural integration in Africa.

Buhari made this known in his remarks at the opening of the 70th session of the Trans-Saharan Road Liaison Committee (TRLC) in Abuja attended by the works ministers from all six member states. The meeting is expected to review most of what transpired in the 69th session and get an update on Trans-Saharan roads.

Represented at the quadrennial meeting by the Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Dingyadi, the president said when he took over in 2015, his administration decided to introduce changes geared towards sustainable and quality infrastructure for economic development and job creation.

“Our commitment is to increase Nigeria’s stock of road infrastructure to ease the cost and time of doing business and improve on economic competitiveness as envisaged under our Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

“In view of this, our administration shares the aspiration and vision of the TRLC aimed at encouraging member countries to develop Trans-Saharan roads within their respective territories.“It is a pride to Africa and that is why Nigeria has supported and will continue to support its existence,” he said.

According to him, special funds had been committed to the reconstruction work on the sections of Trans-Saharan roads from Lagos to Ibadan and Kaduna to Kano. Other sections of the road from Ibadan to Ilorin, Ilorin to Jebba, Jebba to Makwa and to Kaduna are either being dualised or rehabilitated, he added. He congratulated the TRLC for its tenacity and achievement over the years.

“I ask member states and their representatives to remain committed to the prompt delivery of this crucial development of road transport infrastructure for the benefit of our people. Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, said, “There is a coast to coast connectivity from the West to the East of Africa and north-east of Africa to the north-west of Africa and from the south-west of Africa to East Africa.”

In his remarks, the Secretary General of TRLC, Mr. Ayadi Mohammed, said among things to be discussed were the necessary volumisation of the projects and what must be done to stimulate trade between the two coasts of the Sahara and review the reasons for the degrade of some Saharan roads.

Director, Highways Planning and Development, Mr Chukwunwike Uzo, said the TRLC, with six countries – Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Tunisia, Algeria and Mali – was formed in 1966 to establish a road link across the six countries to encourage growth, socio-economic activities, development, cooperation and trade.

FG MOVES TO PRESERVE RAILWAY HERITAGE

The Federal Government is fully aware of he importance of preserving the history of the Nigerian Railway heritage, the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has said.
Amaechi said this when he received the Managing Director, International Railway Heritage Consultancy Ltd., Mr Steve Davies, in Abuja on Thursday.

Amaechi said retaining the country’s railway heritage had been a major challenge and he would do everything possible to ensure it was preserved for the sake of the future generation.

He however called on International Railway Heritage Consultancy Ltd to come up with a concept paper on how to secure the country’s investment in the sector.

“It is important that we do not forget our history. We will want you to give us a concept paper on what you think we need to do to secure those investments for our children.

“And we need this quickly because we intend to rehabilitate the entire narrow gauge.

“When rehabilitating the entire narrow gauge, we may want to either demolish the old stations or build new ones and if care is not taken we may demolish the workshops and build new ones because of modern technology.

“We will be glad if we can see a concept paper on what can be done, so that we tie it into the numerous repairs we are going to do.

“We believe if we rehabilitate about 3,505 kilometres of narrow gauge, even if we do’t have money for new  construction of the standard gauge, we can at least run with the narrow gauge which is about 80 kilometres per hour.

“But I don’t want to do that until I see the concept paper of this heritage programme to earmark what can be protected, saved and how to go about doing that. I will be glad to do that,” Amaechi said.

The Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Corporation, Mr Fidet Okhiria, said it was important to know the history of railway in Nigeria before talking about modernising it.

“There is a railway legacy in the NRC that was started in 1995 with the aim of establishing a railway museum.

“The museum, other than acting as a form of relaxation park, also generated revenue for the government and attracted tourists.

“When we started in 1995, we donated some of the legacy buildings and they made it functional.

“We have some old books on railway, artifacts, steam locomotives, and rail carriage bus gathered in the premises in the railway compound.  And we have not exposed it enough to others.

“The UK Rail legacy team visited us for a week. They have improved on our efforts, spending funds to bring it up on their own. And they want to come back and improve on it,” he said.

While speaking, Davies said his group had come to assist the country preserve its heritage at no charge.

“I think, with your modernisation in railway, there is a lot of opportunity here to look at.

“We need to ascertain what is really important and what can be taken and centralised in the central museum.

“We are here at no charge and, because we want to be here, we have already come up with quite a few designs that we think are practical.

“Some of these designs include potentially the rehabilitation of a couple of steam locomotives for tourists’ use and there is a huge international market for heritage steam in other countries.

“Although rehabilitating the steam will be a challenge, the ones we have seen in Lagos are in better condition than many we had rehabilitated and which are now operating on the main land.“Nigeria has the ability to re-create steam if there is at government level the determination to do something better with the rail heritage.”

NEW E-PASSPORT VALID FOR ALL COUNTRIES: NIS

The Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, has said the enhanced e-passport is acceptable and valid for entering all countries.
He gave the reassurance in a statement by NIS Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday James, in Abuja on Thursday.

The CG’s reassurance is coming against the backdrop of the recent problem on the e-Passport with the authority of the United Arab Emirate(UAE).

“The recent problem on the e-Passport with the authority of the United Arab Emirate(UAE) has been resolved.

” I will like to seize this opportunity to thank both the Ambassadors of UAE and Nigeria for resolving the issue.

“In view of the above, Nigerians are encouraged to get their National Identity Number (NIN) and ensure that the information tallies with the one on their Passports.

“The uniformity of the NIN information and that of the 10-year validity Passport is to ensure one identity which is a major feature of the new enhanced e-Passport,” Babandede said.

He further said that the new Passport was available in the Service Headquarters, Abuja and Ikoyi, pending the roll-out in other centres.

” It is worthy to note that the issuance of the former and the new enhanced e-Passports will run concurrently,” he said.

When it comes to reasons to visit Lagos, there are lots of it. But one particular reason stands tall for me as to why I'd love to visit Lagos as frequent as possible and I want to share it with you our vivacious readers.

Lagos, or Las Gidi as it is widely referred to by lots of Nigerians, was created way back in May 27th, 1967. Not that you need the history class but still.... Anyway, Lagos is considered to be the most populous state in Nigeria with over 16 million people as of 2015. This figure largely disputes the 2006 general census which cited Lagos to be approximately 9 million people.
Lagos is one of the most popular cities in Africa and the World at large. The economy of Lagos is so good that experts say if Lagos were to be a country, it would be the 5th largest economy in Africa.

Lagos is a city surrounded by the Atlantic ocean, with the third mainland bridge linking the Lagos island and the mainland. It is the longest bridge in Africa.

If you're a Nigerian and you say you've never been to Lagos, people are not hesitant to tell you of how much you're missing out. Even tourists coming into Nigeria on vacation or business desire to visit or stay in Lagos.
